Privacy Policy

1. Scope of this policy

This policy applies to WatchCat, our macOS application. WatchCat does not require an account, and its core recognition features run locally on your Mac. Except as described in this policy, we do not collect or receive personal information through the app.

2. How we use the camera

After you explicitly grant permission, WatchCat briefly uses your Mac's camera for face detection and owner recognition during initial enrollment, manual testing, and after your chosen keyboard and mouse idle time. The camera stops when detection or enrollment is complete.

Camera frames are processed in real time only on the current device. We do not save, upload, or share original photos or videos.

3. Face features stored locally

During enrollment, a dedicated face identity model generates a 256-dimensional feature vector for comparison. Clothing, hairstyle, and background are not used to grant access. These features are not original photos and remain only in the app sandbox on the current Mac for later owner recognition.

Face features are never sent to us or any third-party server and are not used for advertising, profiling, or cross-app tracking.

4. Settings and on-device data

The app stores your selected settings on the device, including whether protection is enabled, idle time, detection duration, countdown duration, and recognition strictness. These settings are used only to provide app functionality.

The app reads keyboard and mouse idle time and power status to decide when to check and when to enable power saving. This information never leaves your Mac.

5. What we do not collect

• No account, name, email address, or phone number.
• No device identifiers, precise location, contacts, or browsing history.
• No saved or uploaded camera photos, videos, or audio.
• No uploaded face or appearance feature templates.
• No advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking SDKs.
• No sale, rental, or sharing of your personal data.

6. Third-party services and data sharing

WatchCat includes no advertising, user analytics, or third-party tracking SDKs. Face features, camera frames, and in-app settings are not sent to us or any third party. We do not sell, rent, or otherwise trade your personal information.

The app uses Apple-provided macOS frameworks for camera permission, app sandboxing, and local processing. Those system services are governed by Apple's own privacy policies.

7. Deleting data and revoking permission

You can delete local face features at any time in WatchCat → Settings → Owner Recognition and enroll again later. After deletion, the app automatically returns to basic protection without using the camera. Uninstalling the app also removes local data from its app container.

You can revoke camera permission at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera. Enrollment and recognition features that require the camera will then stop working.

8. Data security and retention

Data is stored in the restricted container provided by the macOS app sandbox. Feature templates remain on your Mac while you keep the app and enrollment data, and are removed when you delete them in the app or uninstall the app.

No storage method can guarantee absolute security. We recommend protecting your Mac login credentials and installing macOS security updates promptly.

9. Your choices and rights

WatchCat does not maintain a server-side user database, so there is normally no personal profile for us to access, correct, or export. You can always review and change settings on your Mac, delete local face features, revoke camera access, or uninstall the app.

If the laws where you live provide additional data rights, you may contact us below. Because we do not create accounts, we may be unable—or may not need—to verify your identity when responding.

10. Children's privacy

WatchCat does not actively collect personal data from any user and provides no child-directed data collection, social, or advertising features.

11. Changes to this policy

If app features or data practices change, we will update this policy and its “Last updated” date. For material changes, we will provide notice through the app, product website, or App Store product page where reasonably practical.
